Brief Safari Overview

Over the last 4 years Matoya Lodge has established itself as the premier destination for anglers looking for true trophy tiger fish and bream, in particular those looking for a new personal best. The Barotse Floodplains has, on a consistent basis, produced some of the largest tigerfish and bream that can be found anywhere in Africa. By combining your stay at Matoya Lodge with 2 nights fly camping on remote beaches in Barotse, you will be able to fish parts of Barotse that are not normally seen as well as experience a fishing wilderness not previously available.

Fishing the Barotse Floodplains

Your time fishing the Barotse Floodplains will mainly be spent targeting the trophy tigers and bream that are found in these waters. During September, the fish will be responding to lures (trolling and spinning), fly fishing and drifting with live-bait. The camp record is 22lbs with a number of 15-20lb fish taken every season! Bream, in particular nembwe, are also found here and get up to enormous sizes with 6-9lb bream being possible to target on fly and lure. In addition to our fishing the main Zambezi, there are options to journey to the LUNGWEBUNGU & KABOMPO rivers (water levels depending) and potentially overnight in these areas as well.
